While WWE’s Clash at the Castle was heavily in the mix for tonight’s SmackDown, it wasn’t the only event in the spotlight, as tonight fans got some long-awaited details on the Women’s Tag Team Championship. The titles have not been referenced or discussed on WWE TV since it was announced that Sasha Banks and Naomi had been indefinitely suspended following their exit from WWE, after which a new champion was crowned. The tournament was announced. WWE fans haven’t heard anything since then, but tonight it was announced that the tournament is indeed taking place, and will begin next week’s Monday Night Raw.
No other details were revealed about the tournament, including who would attend or whether it would take place on both Raw and SmackDown, but it is likely that it will be some sort of tie at the upcoming Clash at the Castle.
The return of Sasha Banks and Naomi
This is where if the tournament ends, it would be an ideal place for the return of Sasha Banks and Naomi, as recent reports have indicated that they may return to WWE. If they show up in Clash, they may well turn out to be Champions once again, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Two big new factions in the mix for tag team gold
One of the issues pointed out earlier with the tournament was the lack of real tag teams in the division. At the time Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley recently broke up and Natalya and Shayna Baszler lost previous title shots, WWE didn’t have real teams to deal with. At SummerSlam, fans got a new faction in control of Bayley, Dakota Kai, and Io Skye, and it’s hard not to see Toxic Attraction on Raw or SmackDown anytime soon. If that’s the case, there will be two big new factions in the mix for tag team gold, and with the return of Naomi and Sasha, you’ll have a much healthier split to form.
