Where and how did firecrackers originate?

There are many types of stories about the origin of firecrackers, but some historians tell its origin and discovery in China. It is said that in the sixth century itself, firecrackers started in China with an accident. Actually, a cooking cook accidentally threw saltpeter (potassium nitrate) into the fire, after which colored flames came out of it. After this, the cook mixed coal and sulfur along with saltpeter and put its powder in it, after which there was a very strong explosion and colorful flames also came out. With this explosion, gunpowder was discovered and firecrackers started.

Firecrackers invented in China

Actually, firecrackers were invented in China due to an accident. While cooking spicy food, a cook accidentally put saltpeter (potassium nitrate) on the fire. The flames rising from it became colorful, due to which the curiosity of the people increased. Then the head of the cook set the mixture of coal and sulfur along with saltpeter on fire. Due to which colorful flames rose with a very loud sound. That’s where the world of fireworks i.e. firecrackers started. The first evidence of firecrackers in history is found in the year 1040. When the Chinese made ‘fire pill’ by wrapping these three things with some other chemicals and wrapping them in the paper.

When did firecrackers arrive in India?

Fireworks started in India in the 18th century. At that time it was considered an expensive event. Only the king-Maharaj used to make fireworks at festivals. According to Peshwayanchi Bakhar, a book of Maratha history, Mahadji Sadhiya had made fireworks for four days during the celebration of Diwali in Kota State.
