Shoaib Akhtar recalls an interesting incident about Sachin Tendulkar

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has recalled an interesting incident related to himself and India’s great batsman Sachin Tendulkar. This incident happened during Pakistan’s visit to India in the year 2007. The Pakistan pacer tried to lift Tendulkar at an award ceremony during the tour. But then left them. Pakistan toured India in November-December 2007 for five ODIs and three Test matches.

Shoaib Akhtar was scared of this incident

Recalling this tour of India, Shoaib Akhtar emphasized some interesting parts of the incident. He admitted that when Sachin Tendulkar slipped from his hands, he was afraid that the batsman might get hurt. He said that if the flamboyant batsman was injured, the Indians would never have allowed him to enter the country again.

Shoaib Akhtar said in a conversation with Sportskeeda, “As always, I wanted to do something different. So I tried to raise Sachin Tendulkar, just for fun. I managed to lift him, but then he slipped out of my hand. Tendulkar fell, not so bad, but I thought to myself ‘Main Gaya kaam see. I was afraid that if Sachin Tendulkar became unfit or injured, I would never get an Indian visa. Indians will never let me come back to the country or burn me alive.”

India-Pakistan matches are always much-awaited matches. When the arch-rivals play each other, the entire cricketing fraternity looks forward to watching the match. Shoaib Akhtar said that although the rival players on the field were good friends off the field. He further said about this incident, “When he fell down, I really felt that my life was over. I remember Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh were also there and they were telling me. ‘What are you doing man?’ And I replied to him and said that I myself do not know, it just happened.

He further said, “Then I went and hugged Tendulkar and asked him if he was fine. Thankfully, he said he was fine. Then I told him that if something had happened, it could have created a big problem for me. Especially for the media and all the fans of India. Tendulkar overtook us later in the series. At that time, I wished he would have been unfit (joke).”
