West Indies Beat England in The Third T20 With Rovman Powell Century

Rovman Powell and Nicholas Pooran’s scintillating performances with the bat and then brilliance from the bowlers helped West Indies beat England by 20 runs in the third T20I of the five-match series at the Kensington Oval here. With this win, the hosts have taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. The fourth T20 match will be played on Saturday.

Brilliant performance with the bat of Nicholas Pooran

Chasing 225 runs, England lost wickets at regular intervals. Only Tom Banton and Philip Salt fought the Caribbean bowlers. Banton scored 73 while Salt played an innings of 57 runs. But could not make the team win. Windies won by 20 runs. Captain Eoin Morgan could not play the match due to injury. Moeen Ali took the captaincy in his place.

Rovman Powell’s innings of 107 runs

For West Indies, Romario Shepherd took three wickets while Kieron Pollard took two wickets. Earlier, Rovman Powell’s 107 and Nicholas Pooran’s 70 helped West Indies to 224/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Powell scored 107 runs in 53 balls with the help of 4 fours and 10 sixes.

After the match, West Indies batsman Rovman Powell said that every ball was coming out of the middle of his bat. “I came to know about the selection last night. Spoke with the captain. The plan was to play between two left-handers, Pooran and Bravo. This inning shows the improvement in my batting. Wrist spins were a problem for me, but I worked on it in the last 6-7 months. We knew that Adil Rashid was the most dangerous bowler for him. We wanted to score 25-30 runs against them and then target others.

Rovman Powell wreaks havoc

England won the toss and decided to field first. The Caribbean team had a poor start and Brendan King (10) and Shai Hope (4) returned to the dugout in quick succession. From here Rovman Powell began to wreak havoc and combined with Nicholas Pooran (70) to execute the record. Powell and Pooran shared a 122-run stand for the third wicket, which is the best third-wicket stand for West Indies in T20 International cricket. Nicholas Pooran was caught by Rashid at the hands of Livingstone and broke this partnership. Pooran scored 70 runs in 43 balls with the help of four fours and five sixes.

Benton and Salt’s innings did not work

Tom Banton (73) and Phil Salt (57) batted well for England, chasing the target of 225 runs. On the strength of both the batsmen, the England team could score 204 runs in the stipulated 20 overs for the loss of 9 wickets. Apart from these two, no other batsman has contributed well. Romario Shepherd took the maximum of three wickets for the West Indies. Captain Kieron Pollard took two wickets. Sheldon Cottrell, Jason Holder, and Akil Hussain got one wicket each. The fourth T20 International match of the series between the two countries will be played on Sunday.
