Talking to Times Now, Sanjay Manjrekar said, “I don’t know why there should be a public conversation or any statement should have been made by the BCCI President. Whereas in reality, it is the job of the chairman of the selection committee. The chairman of the selection committee is very important in the Indian cricket administration. But it doesn’t get the importance it deserves.” Giving the example of Ricky Ponting, Manjrekar said that when he was removed from the captaincy, the selectors had clarified everything.

Before Manjrekar, former Indian captain Dilip Vengsarkar had also said that Ganguly should not have spoken on the issue of captaincy on behalf of the national selectors. It does not come under Ganguly’s purview.
