Regular captain Virat Kohli will join the team for the second Test and will lead the team. The Cricket Board of India (BCCI) announced the team in a press release on Friday.

Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur rested

The special thing is that Rohit Sharma is going to captain the Indian team in the T20 series. Apart from Rohit, key fast bowlers, especially Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Shardul Thakur have been rested from both the Test matches. Apart from this, wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant has kept out of the Test series to get rid of bio-bubble fatigue.

Apart from the first Test, Virat Kohli will not be with the team in the T20 series as well. The decision has taken keeping in mind the tour of South Africa. Now with Rahane becoming the captain, the burden of vice-captaincy in the first Test will be on Cheteshwar Pujara’s shoulders.

Right-arm off-spinner Jayant Yadav has also got a chance in the team. Jayant played his last Test match against Australia in February 2017. 31-year-old Jayant Yadav has so far taken 11 wickets in four Test matches for India. Apart from this, he also contributed 228 runs with the bat. Which included a century and a half-century. Jayant Yadav is currently a part of Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL.
