Maharashtra Government Made Separate Rules For Air Travelers

They are different from the SOP issued by the central government. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said in a letter to the Additional Chief Secretary that there should be only one guideline across the country so that air travelers do not face problems. It said in the letter that the guidelines issued by the Union Health Ministry should be implemented.

The guidelines of the Government of Maharashtra are contrary to the SOPs and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Therefore I issued to you on behalf of the state. I request you to make the orders as per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. So that there is the uniform implementation of the guidelines in all the states and union territories.

Why did you have to write the letter?

This letter written when the new guideline regarding travelers coming from abroad has come into effect from today. The Maharashtra government had prepared its own guidelines apart from the guidelines of the Union Health Ministry. In this, the RTPCR test made mandatory for all international passengers at Mumbai airport.

Guidelines issued by the Union Health Ministry

14-day home quarantine is mandatory for international travelers. Home quarantine is necessary even if the RTPCR test is negative. Negative RTPCR test is mandatory 48 hours before the date of travel for domestic passengers coming to Maharashtra from other states. The letter said that these new rules are different from the guidelines issued by the Union Health Ministry.
