what does it mean to be a designer
As the first black creative designer for the famed fashion house, Virgil Abloh broke boundaries and envisioned what it meant to be a designer. He was an architect, embracing the community that is often the legend of fashion. With respect to and the utmost respect for cultures that the industry is so quick to capitalize on.
The late designer shares a common thread
The fusion of historical French codes with hip-hop and streetwear styles that shaped Abloh’s upbringing is not to be taken lightly. Well, the “Air Force 1” design and the late designer share a common thread: both ’80s kids and born a year apart.
Virgil pays tribute to his inner child
An all-encompassing ideal that inspires everything he designs, through to 47 styles of expert-made footwear, which sadly debuted in his magnum opus: Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2022 menswear collection. This collection marked the final pieces made by Virgil. Sadly, the designer passed away two days before the collection presentation after a personal battle with cancer in Miami.
Supporting the education of “educationally promising students of African descent”
Now, nine styles from the collection auctioned off, with all proceeds donated to the Virgil AblohTM “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund. This enrolled program supports the education of “educationally promising students of Black, African American or African descent.” At 6 p.m. AEST, the sneakers will be open for bidding on Louis Vuitton’s website. While each customer will only be able to purchase one of nine styles, each sneaker sold with a leather pilot case.
