Sunil Gavaskar believes that both Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane will be dropped for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. After the completion of the Test series in South Africa, the Virat Kohli-led team will play the Test series against Sri Lanka at the end of February. Experienced cricketers Pujara and Rahane have been mediocre in the ongoing Test series against the Proteas. Both can drop from the Sri Lanka series. In their place, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Hanuma Vihari can get a chance in the middle order.
Gavaskar said in a commentary on the third day of the Cape Town Test
Commenting on the third day of the Cape Town Test, Gavaskar said, ‘I think only Ajinkya Rahane will not be out of the team. Shreyas Iyer got a chance in the Test series against New Zealand and scored a brilliant century. He batted well throughout the series. So I believe there will be two vacant places in the playing XI.

Both Pujara and Rahane will be out of the Sri Lanka series
Gavaskar said during this, ‘I think both Pujara and Rahane will be dropped from the team for the Sri Lanka series. Both Iyer and Vihari will play. We have to see who plays at number 3. Pujara could replaced by Hanuma Vihari and Rahane could be replace by Shreyas Iyer at number five, but we will have to see. Still, I think there will definitely be two slots to spare against Sri Lanka.’
Kohli supported Pujara and Rahane a lot
