FC Dallas Academy Under 19s 4-1 Win in MLS Next Semifinals

FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas Under-19 Boys Academy advanced to the semifinals of the MLS Next Playoff after a 4-1 win over Wake FC of North Carolina at Toyota Soccer Center on Wednesday afternoon.

John Gall, the head coach of the Under-19 team, said, “I thought the game probably should have ended some time ago.” “Night (Pickering) had a few chances in the offense. The goalkeeper made some good saves. We’ve talked about getting into good areas and creating chances throughout the year. So we definitely got there. But the players’ motivation is there. | Keep going and we are going to get the next one. So all credit goes to the boys. They kept going and got the second goal. And we knew once we got the second one the floodgates were about to open.”

Down header after a corner from “Danny” Elizalde

Forward Knight Pickering opened the scoring within five minutes with a bottom header following a corner from Cesar “Danny” Elizalde. But the lead was short-lived as Wake FC equalized three minutes later with an impressive shot from goalkeeper Aaron Salinas into the top corner.

After 20 minutes the wake was reduced to 10 men. When it #17 was shown a second yellow card for a wrong tackle on Timothy Ospina. Pickering had a good chance for his second game. When Diego Hernandez slips the ball past Wake’s backline. But the goalkeeper made a good 1v1 defense.

The second half was largely devoid of opportunities for both sides. until Tariq Scott overtook Wake’s backline and put Dallas ahead with a confident post-post finish. The goal helped Dallas settle into the game and they controlled most of the possession. until Jalen Belong added a third goal with a back-post tap-in after a long run by Pickering. Fellow substitute Mickey Morales put the icing on the cake with a late penalty and made it 4-1 Dallas.

The Under-19s move on to the semi-finals where they will face the New England Revolution or Players Development Academy on Friday, July 1 at 9 a.m.
