It is estimated that as the next CDS, the government can discuss the names of the chiefs of the three armies i.e. Army, Navy, and Airforce. Therefore, apart from General Naravane, Air Force Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary and Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar can also join the candidates for this post.

Who is MM Naravane?

General Naravane is currently the Chief of Army Staff. Prior to this, he was the Chief of the Northern Command of the Army. During his 4 decades in the Army, Naravane has handled many challenging responsibilities. He has played an important role in preventing terrorist activities during his deployment from Kashmir to North-East states. Naravane has been a part of the Peace Keeping Force in Operation Pawan, conducted in Sri Lanka during 1987. General MM Naravane took over as the Vice Chief of the Indian Army on 1 September.

People aware of this development told on Thursday. The government will form a panel of names of senior commanders of the Army, Air Force, and Navy. Based on the recommendations of the three services, this panel will be finalized in the next two to three days. After this, it will be sent to Defense Minister Rajnath Singh for approval. After their approval, these names will be sent to the Cabinet Committee on Appointments for consideration, which will take a final call on the country’s next CDS.
