7 Killed Over 45Injured In Bengal Train Accident

So far 9 people have lost their lives in the train accident in Bengal. At the same time, 45 people are said to be injured. The accident with the Bikaner-Guwahati Express took place in Jalpaiguri, Bengal on Thursday.

On Thursday, 12 coaches of the Bikaner-Guwahati Express train derailed and some coaches overturned in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district. At least seven passengers died and more than 45 people were injured in this accident. According to railway officials, six coaches were badly damaged. There were 1053 passengers on the train at the time of the accident. The accident site is more than 360 km from Guwahati.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav will visit the spot

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation by talking to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav regarding the train accident. In a tweet on the accident, Prime Minister Modi said, “Talking to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav took stock of the situation in the wake of the train accident in West Bengal. My sympathies are with the families of the victims. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and took stock of the accident.

Indian Railways has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the next of kin of each of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh for critically injured, and Rs 25,000 for those with minor injuries. According to railway officials, due to the accident on the mainline, all trains going towards Guwahati have been stopped for the time being.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar tweeted

Saddened to hear the news of the Bikaner-Guwahati Express derailment near Jalpaiguri. While Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spoke to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the accident. Sarma said Banerjee assured him of all possible help and information about the situation. Many of the victims of this accident are suspected to be from Assam as the train was going to Guwahati, the capital of Assam.
