Four children died in a fire in the child ward of a Bhopal hospital. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed a high-level inquiry into the matter.
4 children die in Bhopal hospital fire
In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, a major accident took place on Monday night in the special newborn baby unit of Kamala Nehru Children’s Hospital. At least four children died in this accident. The state government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. State Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang said. The fire may have started due to a short circuit. He described the situation inside the ward as “extremely scary”.
An officer said
It is located on the third floor of the hospital where the ICU is located. Sarang said, “Four children died in the fire in the SNCU ward. As soon as we got information about the incident, we reached the spot along with other people. It was dark inside the ward. We sent the children to the next ward. He said that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs.4 lakh each to the families of the deceased children.
A total of 40 children were admitted to SNCU
In-charge of Fatehgarh Fire Station, Zubair Khan told. A fire broke out on the third floor of the hospital building at around 9 pm on Monday night and around 10 fire tenders reached the spot to douse the fire. He expressed the possibility of fire due to a short circuit. A total of 40 children were admitted to the SNCU. Out of these, 36 children have been kept in different wards.
The hospital staff fled from there at the time of the incident.
After the fire in the hospital, the family members of the children admitted in the ward were seen running here and there in search of their children. Some angry relatives alleged that instead of saving the children, the hospital staff fled at the time of the incident. Witnesses told that a parent was searching for their child. Some others came out of the hospital with their children. A woman present inside the hospital said that the ward was full of smoke.
Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath demanded strict action
Kamala Nehru Children’s Hospital is a part of Government Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal, which is one of the largest medical centers in the state. Describing the incident as extremely painful, former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Kamal Nath demanded a high-level inquiry from the government and strict action against those responsible for it. Madhya Pradesh BJP President Vishnu Dutt Sharma also expressed grief over the incident. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the fire incident.
